Beaumont ISD to Layoff Almost 300 Positions
Staring down the barrel of severe budget cuts, Beaumont ISD trustees could vote Monday night to approve the layoffs of 231 school district employees.
The savings of not paying the salaries of those employees is meant to make up for BISD’s projected $25 million budget shortfall next year.
The school board meets Monday night at 6 p.m. at the district administration building, 3395Harrison Ave.
Superintendent Timothy Chargois released a list of the 231 positions to be eliminated last week. The list identified 162 teachers, 12 assistant principals, two counselors, a librarian and 51 district-wide positions to be cut.
Trustees do not have much time to assemble a budget for next school year. A budget must be approved before Sept. 1.
