Teacher in Sex Scandal Commits Suicide
A teacher at a west Texas high school took his own life a day after he resigned from his job amid allegations that he had a sexual relationship with a student.
Mark Lampman, 47, a veteran government teacher and assistant girls golf coach, was found dead Wednesday afternoon, Ector County Independent School District Officer Mike Adkins confirmed.
Earlier that day he became the fifth teacher in under a year to resign under suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a student, authorities said.
“Yesterday we were informed that his family was worried about him,” Adkins told the Daily News Thursday. “We were notified later by the sheriff’s office that they had found him.”
It appears that Lampman, who spent 17 years with the school, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Permian High School is embroiled in scandal stemming from the high incidence of alleged teacher-student relationships.
