Texas Topped California As The Country’s Top Technology Merchandising Exporter
Texas topped California as the country’s top technology merchandising exporter, bringing in a total of $45 billion in 2012, according to a new study released by TechAmerica Foundation.
Texas technology exports increased 7 percent from 2011, bringing in an additional $3 billion. Congressman Joaquin Castro said this report places Texas at the forefront of technology exports.
“The high tech industry is not only growing in Texas, but also yielding thousands of high paying jobs in our state,” Castro said. “For places like San Antonio, it’s been important to see high tech companies partner with educational institutions to grow talent, as well as champion immigration reform.”
Technology exports account for 17 percent of all exports in Texas during 2012, above the national average of 13 percent. The state’s largest trading partner is Mexico, with $22 billion in tech exports.
