Texas Billionaire Calls Hiring Strong for Longhorns’ Football Coach a ‘Kick in the Face’: Strong Responds
Earlier this week, University of Texas billionaire donor Red McCombs called the hiring of new football coach Charlie Strong a “kick in the face.” He said the whole hiring process was “a bit sideways” and that Strong would make a great position coach or coordinator.
Wednesday, Strong was asked about those comments.
“There are going to be statements made,” Strong told the Dan Patrick Show. “You can’t worry about that. You just move on. You have a job to do. You can’t worry about what people say or think. I’m going to get judged by my work here.”
Patrick asked Strong if statements like that make him angry, and if it makes him feel like he needs to prove people wrong. His response was a simple one.
“Once you win some football games, you’re going to change a lot of people’s attitudes,” he said. “You have to win. Everybody wants to win nowadays. There are those expectations anywhere you go.”
