Former CPRIT Executive Indicted on Charges of Deception

A Texas grand jury has indicted a former executive of the state’s $3 billion cancer-fighting agency with fraud for his involvement in improperly awarding an $11 million taxpayer-funded grant.

Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg said Friday that Jerald “Jerry” Cobbs has been charged with securing execution of a document by deception. It’s the first criminal charge following a yearlong criminal investigation into the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.
