GOP Lt. Governor Candidates Take Center Stage at Forum
As the state’s second-in-command, the lieutenant governor presides over the Texas Senate and leads legislative sessions. He parcels out prized senate committee appointments. Many consider the role to be one of the most politically powerful positions in the state and even though the primaries are still months away, it’s a race that is already drawing attention.
The four Republicans hoping to be the state’s next lieutenant governor took center stage at a candidate forum hosted by the Houston Area Business and Industry Groups Wednesday (Nov. 20). A group of roughly 300 business and community leaders gathered at Brady’s Landing to hear incumbent candidate David Dewhurst and his three Republican challengers: state Senator Dan Patrick, Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples and Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson.
