Sen. Van de Putte Enters Texas Lt. Governor’s Race
State Sen. Leticia Van de Putte announced her candidacy for lieutenant governor Saturday (Oct. 23) in San Antonio.
The Democrat from San Antonio ended months of speculation when she spoke before hundreds of supporters at San Antonio College.
“We’re proud of Texas, too, but Texas families deserve better than what they’ve been getting,” Van de Putte said. “Texas can do better than this and that’s why I announce that I’ll ask the people of Texas to hire me as their next lieutenant governor.”
The pharmacist and mother of six will join state Senator Wendy Davis on the campaign trail. If both are successful at the March primary, it will be the first time in Texas history two women will lead a major party’s ticket for top offices and only the fourth time in U.S.
