Population Growth Could Decide Whether Texas Stays Red or Turns Blue

If Republicans want to keep Texas red, their best strategy may be to send Gov. Perry on a national tour in which he confesses that Texas is not all that it’s cracked up to be, and, please, please, please, whatever you do, don’t move to Texas.

For a long time I have been intrigued by the question of how migration patterns in the United States have redrawn the map of American politics, the ways in which the movement of people either transforms or reinforces the politics of certain places, and the question of whether people are more likely to change the places they move to or be changed by their new locations, and to what degree the political climate of a destination is part and parcel of a person’s decision to move there.
