Texas Longhorns Continues to Hold Big 12 Lead With Win Over WVU
Mack Brown has been through a lot in 16 seasons as head coach at Texas – but never overtime.
Case McCoy threw a 2-yard touchdown pass in overtime and Texas linebacker Steve Edmond then intercepted West Virginia’s Paul Millard in the end zone on fourth down to give the Longhorns a 47-40 win over the Mountaineers on Saturday night.
Texas (7-2, 6-0 Big 12) maintained sole possession of first place in the conference, just ahead of No. 5 Baylor.
“I don’t know what other people’s nerves were. Mine were fine,” McCoy said. “To be undefeated in conference is right where we want to be. This team is building confidence in each other.”
Charles Sims ran for 96 yards and three touchdowns for West Virginia (4-6, 2-5). The Mountaineers must now win both of their remaining games at Kansas and at home against Iowa State to become bowl eligible.
