Texas Universities Team Up to Explore the Best Safety Practices for Offshore Operations
Three Texas universities are teaming up to oversee the Ocean Energy Safety Institute, a center that will explore the best safety practices for offshore operations.
With $5 million in funding and a five-year agreement, Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston is partnering with the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station’s Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center to manage the institute. Funding came from the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, or BSEE.
The Ocean Energy Safety Institute will develop a program of research, technical assistance and education for offshore oil and gas exploration, development and production technology. The institute will also provide recommendations and technical assistance to BSEE on the best and safest technologies. The institute will develop and maintain an equipment failure monitoring system to train federal employees to help them stay on top of the latest technology.
