Fifth-graders from across the state want the eyes of Texas to be on their mustaches.

The Texas Department of State Health Services says it expects more than 1,000 mustachioed fifth-graders for the Red Ribbon Rally Thursday. The rally is to support anti-drug efforts.

The meaning of the mustache? It’s a plea to peers: “I mustache you not to do drugs.”

Afterward, the students will head to a legislative session of sorts in which they’ll debate and vote on bills about substance abuse.
