Texas Businessman Takes on Role as Democratic National Committee’s Finance Chairman
WASHINGTON — In picking Texas businessman Henry Muñoz to serve as the Democratic National Committee’s national finance chairman, President Obama has installed the first Latino as the party’s top fundraiser.
Muñoz, 53, also is likely the first DNC finance chairman to have ever donned boxing gloves and jumped into the ring to raise money. As “The Fighting Fox,” Muñoz trained for a year in advance of a 2009 boxing match to collect funds for the South Texas Hispanic Fund, a foundation based in his hometown of San Antonio. In a showman’s move, he arrived at the bout in a limousine and accompanied by a retinue of female attendants.
