Texas News: Joe Straus Re-elected Texas House Speaker

AUSTIN — House Speaker Joe Straus won another term as leader of the 150-member chamber Tuesday as he easily prevailed over a challenge from Rep. David Simpson and other hard-core conservatives who remain uncomfortable with their more moderate GOP colleague from San Antonio.

Simpson, R-Longview, surrendered before a vote, sparing his colleagues of a public record of how many members opposed Straus. Straus clinched another term by acclimation.
